The Blood Wars Saga
Chapter I
Emerald
*********************
In the far planes of the universe there is a planet named Drago. It orbits around its two suns: a brighter yellow one named Dracmaria, and a dimmer red one named Dragmora.
Sorry, I had to give some background. Anyway, I'm Emerald; and I live in the town of Firecity in the kingdom of Dracosus. I am a green dragon with dark brown eyes, and I am about 77 feet from head to tail, and 36 feet tall with a 42 foot wingspan. I am about to address a group of about fifty dragons in the town hall at this moment. the town hall was built by elves before they were forced by the dragon's of Draco's Realm to a remote area of the forest. You see, I am king of Dracosus.
The town hall was particularly beautiful today, with the twin suns making the gold-coated quartz podium I reside in glimmer. Long green banners hang from the rafters of the podium, drifting slightly in the breeze created by the crowd. I pass below them, preparing to address my people. The large windows cast haphazard shadows and light around the church-like hall, reflecting in the eyes of every dragon that stands before me. As my front claws brush against the gold banister in front of me, like a switch, a flock of pigeons took off into the air and into the infinite blue sky.
"Hello everyone."
"Hello Emerald," they reply, their voices ringing in a slightly disorganized harmony.
I look though the group of dragons before me, and suddenly I see the prettiest dragoness I have ever seen in my life! She is purple with beautiful blue eyes that look like the sky is reflecting in them. She also has two spines on her forehead that make it look like she has hair, and is wearing a solid gold pendent with a round cut amethyst in the center.
"Hey, Thunder-wing, what's her name?" I ask my friend and mentor, who is standing next to me on the podium. He doesn't look at me when he answers, instead staring at the dragoness.
"That's Dragmornia," says Thunder-wing.
"She is so beautiful." You'd have to be deaf to miss the infatuated tone of my voice at that moment.
"What? You actually like her!?" Thunder-wing exclaims.
"YES, what's it to you!?" I cry, finding myself suddenly angry and defensive.
"...Why?" Thunder-wing asks simply.
"She has captured my heart, and she is not giving it back." I croon, blissfully unaware of how (totally retarded) and corny I sound.
"That's great, Emerald," says Thunder-wing. He's already forgotten the subject for the allure of the meeting.
"I know, Thunder-wing."
"What is it about her that's so interesting?" asks Thunder-wing, unexpectedly jumping back into the moment.
"She has the wings of an angel." And it was true; her pearly white, feathery wings were unlike the scaly and often unpleasant ones that defined our kind.
"She is a strange dragon, Emerald," agrees Thunder-wing, in his own, bald way.
"Well, Thunder-wing, you may be right."
At that moment I decide to address the congregation. "Well, thank you all for coming, and we all will now take a vote on what laws will be passed this week." The excitement in the air is stunning. If you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. Most of the dragons are about as excited to get started on new laws as I am. The only ones with anything vaguely resembling happiness on their faces are the ones with new laws to be passed, who are bouncing up and down on their talons and waving their arms.
"All right, let's get to it!" Thunder-wing proclaims.
We pass three laws on new buildings, and decline four laws on foreign rights. The whole thing takes about two hours, so be fortunate that I'm sparing you the bland details. After the meeting, Thunder-wing and I are in my office talking about the success of the meeting when Dragmornia opens the door. I quickly mask my surprise behind a face of cool indifference.
"Oh, hello Emerald," says Dragmornia shyly, bowing her head, as is our custom. It is then that she notices Thunder-wing. "Who is this?"
"This is Thunder-wing." I keep my response curt and short, not to scare her off, but to scare my own emotions off. They were pounding at my heart so fiercely I feared it might explode!
"Hello, Thunder-wing," says Dragmornia.
"Hello, Dragmornia," says Thunder-wing.
I look at Dragmornia strait into her glowing blue eyes. Thunder-wing looks at me and notices that my eyes are twinkling like stars. "Emerald, are you and Dragmornia dating?" asks Thunder-wing.
I am shock by the acquisition made by Thunder-wing. I start to try and speak but stop. Pausing for a short breath I finely speak. "Well, actually, we're married and have two children."
"Yes, Emerald and I are very happy together, Thunder-wing," says Dragmornia.
"WHAT? You're married, Emerald?" Thunder-wing exclaims.
"Yeah, so youre my mentor, you of all the dragons I know should be the happiest for me."
"Thunder-wing, you have helped Emerald though some of his hardest times, and it would be so great if you would continue to support him for his decision to marry me," Dragmornia reminds him.
"Dragmornia and I need your blessing, Thunder-wing."
"First, how long have you been together?" asks Thunder-wing, skeptical.
"What would you say Dragmornia, dear?"
"About two years, Emerald."
"Wait, you have been together for two years?" says Thunder-wing in a shocked tone.
"Yes, Thunder-wing. For two years it has been my secret."
"How could that be? I must have missed something," Thunder-wing muses.
"Well, yeah, I kind of had to keep it a secret." My voice is getting steadily quieter.
"Why have it that way?" asks Thunder-wing. "Why keep something so amazing a secret... even from me?" The last part is said so quietly that at first I can barely make it out. He sounds sad. I believe I can trust him with the truth.
"Because Dragmornia is one of our spies, Thunder-wing."
"WHAT? Dragmornia, you're a spy!?" yelps Thunder-wing.
"Yes, Thunder-wing, I am helping Emerald with knowing what King Draco is up to," says Dragmornia. Thunder-Wing flinches. King Draco was a feared name in our society; a corrupt king with little to no conscious.
"So that's why you had to keep it a secret as well," says Thunder-wing slowly, piecing this odd turn of events together in his mind.
"Yes, Thunder-wing that's why," says Dragmoria.
"Dragmornia and I have to go and see our kids," I interrupt, abruptly killing the conversation. Thunder-wing bids us good-bye, and we take off into the night sky.
***********************************
Dragmornia and I arrive at our homely cave, and Dragmornia calls to out children. "Eleous, Fergellia, where are you?"
I hear the kids laughing in the dining room. Suddenly Eleous jumps out from the doorway followed by his younger sister, Fergellia. Eleous is a blue likeness of his father expect that his wings are made of feathers, and eyes like his mom. His sister Fergellia is orange like her mom with deep green eyes like her mom's. "Hi, Mom and Dad," they chorus.
"Hello, Eleous."
"Hello, Fergellia," Dragmornia echoes.
"Dragmornia, can dad and I go to the river for a while?" Eleous asks in his squeaky voice.
"Sure," says Dragmornia readily.
"Ok, Eleous, let's go! Bye, Dragmornia! Be good, Fergellia!"
"Come on, Dad," Eleous argues. He's all too ready to go.
Eleous and I step outside the cave, push off the ground and fly to a clearing with a river running though it and trees running along the river. Leaves lightly cover the ground, creating a soft cushion for our landing. Crickets chirp in the distance, and fireflies, stars, and the moon and one sun light up the area and make the river sparkle. Despite the appearance of the moon and the stars, the sun has yet to set all the way, casting a brilliant glow across the sky. Eleous is very happy that I am spending time with him.
"Dad do you love us?" asks Eleous. I answer with the only answer there was to give.
"Yes, I love you all very much."
"Why do you, Dad?" Eleous continues.
"Because I am very thankful for you being here."
"Dad do you love me more than Mom?" Eleous presses. There was a long pause before I spoke again.
"Well, I love your mom a lot, and I love you a lot, too, Eleous."
"Well, that's fine," Eleous nods his head.
The sun was hanging lowly in the sky, making it look like the trees were on fire; it was getting late, and Eleous and I had to get home. "Eleous, its time to go."
*****************************
Meanwhile, back at the cave, Dragmornia and Fergellia are talking. "What do you think Dad and Brother are talking about?" asks Fergellia.
"I don't know, Fergellia," says Dragmornia. "Why don't you ask them when they come home?"
"Why does he always take my brother and not me?" Fergellia cries. "He doesn't love me!"
Fergellia starts crying; her tears fall down her face and onto the cave floor with light splashes. "Honey, Honey it's OK; he does love you," assures Dragmornia.
"No, he doesn't!" yells Fergellia.
"He does; he loves you a lot, as do I. He just has trouble proving it at times," Dragmornia croons.
I land outside the cave followed by Eleous. It is then that I hear crying from inside the cave. I walk into the cave and see that Dragmornia and Fergellia are sitting together, and Fergellia is crying. Dragmornia looks up at me and she looked pretty irritated. "Emerald Spyres, where the have you been" yells Dragmornia. My blood stopped cold at the angry sound of her voice, and I found myself unable to answer the question.
"Well, where were you?" Dragmornia demands.
Still unable to speak, and slightly stunned by the sudden, I finally manage to get out a sigh. "I was with Eleous."
"Well, your daughter is falling apart," Dragmornia reminds me.
"...Why?"
"I think you need to spend more time with her," Dragmornia argues.
"I can't; I have paper work to do."
"Then I am leaving tonight," Dragmornia states firmly.
"Tonight? Why?"
"Because I need to leave," Dragmornia says coldly. "I just hope you find the right path."
"Well, I want you to be careful."
"I will be, Emerald," says Dragmornia.
So my sweet, sweet Dragmornia and I go to bed, in preparation for her trip. Early in the morning Dragmornia wakes up and steps outside to begin her trip.
She travels for two days; on the way she only stopped once in a clearing in the forest. After the second day, Dragmornia arrives at her old cave in Draco's Realm, where King Draco the seventh is waiting for her, as if he expected her to arrive. While surprised by his appearance, Dragmornia forces herself to keep calm.
"Hello, Dragmornia," King Draco smiles.
Dragmornia bows and says, "Hello, King Draco." Her voice is anything but friendly.
"So, how's your dear husband, Emerald?" asks King Draco. Dragmornia is taken aback.
"How do you know about that?" asks Dragmornia. King Draco chuckles, in a way that makes Dragmornia's blood run cold.
"I have spies, too, my darling Dragmornia," King Draco reveals.
"Oh, right," says Dragmornia, pretending not to be unnerved by the news. She acts as if she's known it all along. Nodding affirmatively to King Draco, she turned to leave, not wanting to spend even another minute with him. King Draco notices this, and his smile widens, revealing deadly sharp fangs.
"Come now, do you think I'm just going to let you go jetting around with vital information?" King Draco asks.
"No, but I can't betray Emerald," says Dragmornia. "By this time tomorrow, all of Dracosus will know of this. I swear it."
"I see. You've made your choice," King Draco nods his head.
"Yes, and I am proud not to have fallen into you're web of lies," says Dragmornia.
Dragmornia and King Draco start to walk in a circle around each other. Dragmornia jumps at King Draco and bites his neck. He hits her neck with his tail trying to force Dragmornia to let go. She does, and jumps back, blood dropping off her snout. She then starts clawing at his face spilling more blood on to the floor. King Draco starts to run towards Dragmornia. She trips him with her tail, and jumps over. after falling, Draco slide on the floor, and hits his back on the cave wall, forcing him to cough up more blood. King Draco stands up and looks at Dragmornia; blood dripping out of his mouth. He jumps on to Dragmornia's back and claws away her scales. Dragmornia jumps back from King Draco. King Draco jumps back on pushing her into the wall of the cave, and breaks her left wing. Suddenly, while she's recovering from her wing's damage, King Draco hits Dragmornia on the head, knocking her out.
"Thats enough of that," says King Draco to himself.
